Change Request Management (CHARM) with SAP Solution Manager

In a SAP environment in particular, it is often essential to be able to execute changes (both big and small) and entire projects in parallel. SAP Solution Manager gives you an ITIL-compliant Change Request Management (ChaRM) system that assists you in the execution and monitoring of activities for all of the changes to your IT systems. While you can simply work with the familiar SAP transport management, you also have the option of documenting and managing changes to non-SAP systems. The proposal and approval process for a change utilises the ‘request for change’ principle. The implementation of the change is handled by using change documents, and this allows the definition and configuration of different processes for different types of changes (e.g. ‘Normal Change’ for changes to SAP systems with transports, etc.).

The major advantage of using SAP Solution Manager is the seamless integration of change management with other processes. In this way, an incident or problem that has been created as part of IT Service Management can act as the trigger for a change request. Process documentation can also be revised directly within the context of the change document, thanks to the integration with Solution Documentation. The change is then tested using the Test Suite, which is also integrated into change management.

In addition, you can also use additional checks to improve quality – such as before testing or before production cutover, for example.
