SAP Life Sciences

SAP S/4HANA is the 4th SAP ERP generation and supports companies to make a big step towards digitalization or smart business. It covers all functions of ECC 6.0 of SAP ERP. The ECC modules SD, PP, MM, etc. known from R/3 or the Business Suite have been modernized. In addition, some functions that were only available in the industry solutions have been integrated into the standard.

As part of SAP’s Simplification Initiative, S/4HANA was given a new role-based user interface (SAP Fiori) and a simplified data model. In combination with the in-memory technology of the SAP HANA database, business processes can thus be executed much faster and more efficiently; but also completely new products and services are possible through the application of intelligent analyses.

SAP S/4HANA can be operated both on-premise and in the cloud.

The implementation of S/4HANA must be thoroughly prepared. After all, it is a matter of introducing or converting an integrated, business-critical business process system. The conversion to S/4HANA is a highly complex project with a large number of affected users and usually tight time and budget constraints. In addition, it usually runs parallel to ongoing operations, i.e. it must not interfere with day-to-day business and should require only a minimum of downtime, set-up and conversion.

DHC has been your competent consulting partner for all SAP topics in the life sciences for over 20 years. Our consultants not only have the necessary SAP knowledge, but also a deep process and industry know-how in the regulated environment. We support you from strategy and roadmap creation to implementation according to our SAP Activate process model and beyond with support and services.

The updated “SAP S/4HANA Simplification List” for the on-premise release 2021 is now available.

For a migration to SAP S/4HANA, the “Simplification List” is an indispensable tool for checking whether custom code and modifications still work with S/4HANA, whether transactions used in SAP ECC can still be used (or have been combined/simplified and can now be operated with a Fiori app), whether transaction codes have changed, whether something is no longer supported, or whether something has been simplified and replaced by completely new options.

Business Case
The focus is on determining the return on investment and the key points of an investment decision. Together with you, we determine the target figures for decision preparation and identify the potential for improvement, opportunities and risks. Furthermore, we work with you to select the appropriate cost/benefit criteria. The result is a business readiness statement with recommendations for action derived from it.

For the SAP Activate Phase “Discover” we will give you an overview of S/4HANA in the workshop “SAP S/4HANA Jumpstart”, which will be deepened with a system demo. In addition, we explain the industry-specific highlights in S/4HANA and present the possible transformation paths.

With our “360-degree view for the life sciences” we accompany you purposefully in the preparation of your S/4 project. We work with you in various workshops on the important aspects of S/4HANA implementation: processes and functions, organization, technology, compliance, planning/roadmap and budget.

Transformation Concept
The results from the workshops of the “360-degree view” are incorporated into the “Transformation Concept”, which covers the transformation strategy, architecture, compliance, design and budget for the S/4HANA introduction and thus covers all aspects of project preparation – i.e. the essential part of the SAP Activate phase “Explore”.

For companies who currently deploy SAP ERP, the move to SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management should at least be part of medium-term planning, since a migration to SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management will become necessary in the foreseeable future.

In the SAP Activate ‘Realise’ phase, a distinction is made between the following migration scenarios:

  • New/re-implementation
  • System conversion

Once you have chosen DHC as your implementation partner, we work with you to create the blueprint on the basis of your customer requirements specification and our best practice process models.

If you do business in a regulated sector, we ensure that the necessary validation activities are already considered as part of project planning. At DHC, we do not view implementation and validation as two separate projects during rollout but complete them instead hand-in-hand: this cuts costs and improves coordination – so that you can reap the benefits.

Our customers in the pharmaceuticals and medical technology industries face a choice in terms of their system’s operating model – cloud or on-premise – since they not only have to maintain the model deployed but must also ensure its validation. With an on-premise rollout (i.e. a local install), S/4HANA Enterprise Management undergoes ‘conventional’ validation. If you opt for the cloud variant, a number of specifics must then be taken into account when validating cloud computing systems – particularly in the life sciences. While the company delegates its responsibility for operating the system to the cloud provider, the responsibility for quality is always borne by the cloud service client.

Services and Support

Even after your SAP S/4HANA system goes live, we can provide second- and third-level support services as required, and regardless of whether you need remote service provision or direct, on-site support. Our wealth of experience means we are familiar with the key questions asked by your users and can guarantee prompt support into the long term.

Since 1996, DHC has successfully completed many different SAP ERP projects, and is now a domain specialist for the life sciences sector, and for the pharmaceuticals and medical technology industries in particular. We’re also happy to offer you our consulting skills as a partner for SAP S/4HANA. In this area, we have developed an S/4HANA roadmap that provides you with targeted support for decision-making and strategy development for your implementation/re-implementation (greenfield approach) or system conversion (brownfield approach).

Based on SAP Activate, we have developed our own S/4HANA approach, which supports you in particular in decision-making and strategy development for your re- or new implementation (Greenfield Approach) or system conversion (Brownfield Approach).

For the SAP Activate Phase “Discover” we will give you an overview of S/4HANA in the workshop “SAP S/4HANA Jumpstart”, which will be deepened with a system demo. In addition, we explain the industry-specific highlights in S/4HANA and present the possible transformation paths.

For the evaluation of a SAP S/4HANA implementation in the Life Sciences, DHC has developed the 360 degree view shown in the following figure.
